Often times in our life we settle with being average, allowing circumstances and situation to determine who we are. negleting and forgeting what God’s will concerning our life is. and most time we claim to know but when faced with a tough situation we try to condition our mind that it is the will of God that maybe that situation consumes us to teach us a lesson. yes! it is true that there is a reason behind them and a lesson, but not in defeat.
Jesus knew this that is why he said:
“These things i have spoken to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation;but be of good cheer for i have overcome the world.”
– John 16:33
Jesus understands that in this world there are challenges and tough situation but it is not God’s will that it consumes us.
This was the case of the children of Isreal when they were faced by the philistine. This were army that were refered to as to as the army of the Lord, an army that was so dreaded that the thought of engaging them in battle was suicid. But they forgot their cause. they allowed circumstances to and the situation the were facing at that time to determine who they were.
“When saul and all of isreal heard these words of the philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid.”
– 1 Sam 17:11
They have forgoten whose army they were, what an irony, that the army of the Lord of host needed to be reminded of the size of their God through a small boy.
When David was sent to check and give food to his brothers in battle, one could only imagine the joy and enthusiasm with which he ran to the camp but he was surprised with what he witnessed. The army of the one true God running in jittery and out of fear.
“As soon as the Israelite army saw him thy began to run away in fright.”
imagine!! what a sight of disappointment that was for David. this is an army that God has used for exploit, but are afraid of a single man “a giant”.
but David understood that there was a cause there was more to the situation than what one could think of as a human, he knew what the cause was and that it was to show that they are God’s own, called by His name and that there is more as that name is a seal of a convenant between their forefathers and God and they are giants not because of their size but because they carry on their inside a God that can’t fail and can never be mocked.Even though the army saw themselves as just the “army of isreal” but David saw them as the “army of the Lord”
He knew that the cause of the army was to acheive great and impossible feet as they have been known to.
“David asked the soldiers standing nearby, what will a man get for killing this philistine and ending his defiance of Isreal? Who is the pagan philistine anyway that he is allowed to defy the armies of the the living God?”
1 Samuel 17:26
The children of isreal saw the battle as one between them and the giant but david saw the battle as one between God and the philistine and it is imposible for God to be defeated.
Until we begin to look at things beyond our capabilities and come to realize that we have been called unto him. we realize that we are have ben called unto Him. we no longer do things through our strenght but through His strenght and He is the Almighty.
Even though David was going to face the giant they had doubts about the possibility.
“dont be ridiculous! Saul replied “there is no way you can fight this philistine and possibly win! for you are just a boy, and he has been a man of war since his youth.”
– 1 Samuel 17:33
David knew that didn’t count, because he has done things naturally as a boy was impossible . they were looking at him as boy but he never saw Himself as boy but as a giant because of the God he carried and whose name he is going to defeat the giant.
“David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”
– 1 Samuel 17:45-47
David knew it wasn’t about him but about the one whose name he came to challenge the philistine with, in Him was his victory and he got the victory because he knew when you go in the name of God there is no failing. it is high time we stop walking through life with our own knowledge but with the name and strength of God because His name is all we need and with it we could be anything we set our mind to be and acheive for wherever there is a cause there is a God to justify the cause.
